This is an example of a crowd simulation I made using the robust Golaem crowd plugin for Autodesk Maya. I first created all the minecraft versions of disney princesses, and the variety of zombie textures. I then defined dynamic hair and cloth for the cape of Elsa. Variety in the zombie textures, variety in their movements, offset between their looping walk and dance-cycles, the ability to integrate multiple motion capture data into the crowd all increase the believability. Animating a room full of this many characters would be close to impossible but thanks to the simulation engine, defining a few walk cycles and targets are enough to get organic movement and add breath to the background of a scene. Add believable lighting and camera effects and you have yourself a very dynamic and fun scene all possible to make by only one person.
